Zeinab’s Story

Thank you for saying YES to 43,000 hungry children in Uganda.

As she begins to speak, Zeinab’s gentle voice remains calm and steady. Listening to her, you’d never guess the depth of trauma she’s experienced.

A few years ago, Zeinab’s mother was killed in the fighting in Juba – the capital of South Sudan. Zeinab had to flee for her life.

The tragedy of South Sudan’s civil conflict is that Zeinab’s heartbreaking story is echoed by hundreds of thousands of others who, like her, are fleeing the war-ravaged country in fear. Right now, 3,000 refugees cross the border into Uganda every day. Almost 90% of them are women and children, and many are seriously malnourished.

Your generosity ensures that children like Zeinab get an education – feeding their minds to help lift them out of poverty so they can have hope for a full life.

With nothing but the clothes on her back and a few possessions she could carry, Zainab arrived at Uganda’s vast Kiryandongo refugee camp distressed… and desperately hungry. But thanks to friends like you, that wasn’t the end of her story.

Today, the pain is fading from Zeinab’s eyes. Her smile lights up as she expresses her gratitude for your compassion. “I want to thank the people who support us,” she says. Because it’s through your support that Zeinab is enjoying daily nutritious meals, as well as experiencing new hope in Jesus. She now knows how good a full life feels!

And she’s not alone. Right now, you’re helping say YES to 43,000 children through our Every Child, Every Day programme at Kiryandongo.

Of course there’s still much to do. By the end of the year, there will be almost a million South Sudanese refugees living in Uganda. Thousands arrive at Kiryandongo each day, and the numbers are only going to rise as the recently declared famine spreads in South Sudan.

Sadly, new stories of pain are being written all the time. But with your partnership, we’ll say YES to even more hungry children – ensuring that trauma and despair don’t have the last word for these precious kids!

I want to give a full life to hungry children like Zeinab
