The current situation in Zimbabwe is serious. They are in the midst of their worst drought in 40 years. Crops can no longer be grown, livestock has died, and all food is now having to be brought in from outside countries. People are struggling to survive.
The impact on individuals and communities is enormous. Fields are not being farmed for the next growing season as they can not afford to buy fresh seeds; inflation is sitting at 300%
For the children we support in schools in Zimbabwe this is making the need for the meal we provide them daily even more important. This is now becoming their only source of food daily.
When we visited the schools in Zimbabwe, Zivai who is 12, told us the difference that having a meal provided every day makes.
“I can’t learn when I am hungry. When I am hungry my head hurts.”
Zivai wants to be an aircraft engineer once he has completed his education. To achieve his dream he needs the energy to attend school and to learn in his lessons. This means he needs to eat.
