A group of entrepreneurs taking part in a course with ‘The Lions’ set out to raise money through their own business ventures – and together they raised £3,800, enough to fund a life-saving baby warmer for Revival Health Centre, a clinic serving the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya.

Founder Chris Okumu said the clinic had been forced to close by the Kenyan government because the facility couldn’t afford essential equipment like this. “We are so privileged to have this machine donated by you,” he said. “This machine is going to reach out to about 6,000 people – that’s the catchment we have around here.”

For midwife Joan Ambasa, who cares for pregnant mothers and their babies, the impact has been immediate. “It is warm, it is very efficient, and our services have improved,” she said. “When mothers find that we have a baby cot suitable for their baby, they are so happy – they feel their baby is safe.”

Thanks to The Lions, more mothers and babies in Kibera now have that safety.
