There is a moment in Psalm 9 where David writes, “For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the hope of the afflicted shall not perish forever.” It is one of the Bible’s most quietly extraordinary promises – that in a world where the poor and the vulnerable are so easily overlooked, God sees and He does not forget.
That promise sits at the very heart of everything Feed The Hungry does.
I want to tell you about a girl called Rumbitzi.
I met her at Rusununsuko Primary School in Harare, Zimbabwe. She was sitting quietly – solemn, watchful, eyeing me with the kind of cautious reserve that children develop when life has offered them very little reason for trust.

The school was desperately poor. Classrooms were basic shelters and poorly maintained. Some children had fallen asleep on the floors, too hungry and exhausted to concentrate. Rumbitzi had nothing to eat at school. One meal a day, in the evening at home, was all her family could afford.
She stayed in my mind long after I had left.
Our team wrote down what we had seen and passed it up. The need was clear, and the response was swift – within just five days of our visit, a Feed The Hungry feeding programme had begun at Rusununsuko. It was made possible because our church partner was already operating nearby in Harare, and resources were moved quickly to make sure these children didn’t have to wait.
That kind of responsiveness – rooted in relationships, in trust, in a network already on the ground – is one of the things that makes Feed The Hungry’s model so powerful.
Support young people like Rumbitzi.
About eight months later, I had the opportunity to visit Zimbabwe, and Rusununsuko again. And I met Rumbitzi once more. I almost didn’t recognise her. The solemnness was gone. In its place was a child who was happy – genuinely, openly, radiantly happy – and so grateful for the food she now received each day at school. Same girl. Different life. All because God had not forgotten her – and had moved His people to act.
It would be easy to look at the scale of global hunger and feel overwhelmed. The numbers are staggering; the need feels impossible. But God is bigger and His resources are endless.

A meal. A school. A follower. A church that refuses to look away. A supporter who gives quietly and consistently, trusting that their faithful gift reaches someone who needs it. These are the instruments God uses to show a hungry child that they are seen; they are known; they are not forgotten, and that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love.
Whilst our name is “Feed The Hungry”, the way we feed goes far beyond a bowl of food. It means drilling wells so that ‘low caste’ communities in Nepal have clean water for the first time. It means building orphanages and schools so that vulnerable children have a home and a future. It means resourcing local churches to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their own communities. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10). Not merely survival. Not just getting through the day, but a life flourishing with dignity and hope.
Rumbitzi has that now. So do thousands of others, because God has not forgotten them.
